Companion Pet’s: Raptor Hatchlings

Darting HatchlingDarting Hatchling
Dropped by [Dart’s Nest]

Which can be found in Dustwallow Marsh at (46.17 49.17)(47.9 19.0)(48.0 14.19)(49.1 17.5) the respawn rate is two hours, look for a nest with purple eggs.

Deviate HatchlingDeviate Hatchling
Kill all deviate guardians and deviate ravagers in the first part of the instance Wailing Caverns [Level 17-19+], the road makes a circle giving about 24 mobs per circle per attempt and allows for 5 resets per hour. The drop rate is said to be 1 out of 1,000.

Wailing Caverns

Fossilized HatchlingFossilized Hatchling
Created by Archaeology. This companion is a rare tier Fossil archaeology item. It is created by discovering and “solving” 85 fossil fragments. Once completed, an entry on the Fossilized Hatchling can be found in players’ archaeology tab:

“When you finished assembling this tiny skeleton through some eldritch magic, the little critter sprang back to life. He’s a pretty good pet. Since he’s a skeleton, he doesn’t eat much.”

Gundrak HatchlingGundrak Raptor
Like many other people I do not have the Gundrak Raptor, and like many of those same people it’s probably because I (we) did not know you could farm this raptor Outside of Gundrak [Level 76-77].

The drop rate is said to be 1 out of 1,000. These mobs are probably the best in the game for straight-up Borean Leather farming. Very easy to farm, only complaint is a little spread out but a flying mount can fix that =]

Gundrak Raptor

Lashtail HatchlingLashtail Hatchling
Quest reward: [85] This raptor companion is available upon defeating Bloodlord Mandokir in the new five-man heroic Zul’gurub dungeon. Players who have completed the level 20+ Lashtail Hatchling quest chain will find a captured Lashtail Hatchling in the instance, which they can save, and conclude this raptor’s storyline.

To begin the lower level quest chain, horde players will need to pick up the quest The Defense of Grom’gol: Raptor Risk and alliance players will need to pick up the quest Bad Medicine.

Leaping HatchlingLeaping Hatchling
Dropped by [Takk’s Nest]

Which can be found in The Northern Barrens (60.9 19.8)(62.8 20.2)(64.2 23.0)(64.9 28.8) the respawn rate is two hours, look for a nest with purple eggs.

Obsidian HatchlingObsidian Hatchling
Sold for 50 gold by Breanni – Dalaran.

It is also the first pet sold by <Pet Supply> vendor Breanni, the NPC inspired by the creator of the WarcraftPets.com website. Increasing your reputation with the Kirin Tor faction will give you discount on this and other pets sold by Breanni.

Ravasaur HatchlingRavasaur Hatchling
Dropped by [Ravasaur Matriarch’s Nest]

Which can be found in Un’goro Crater (68.9 66.9)(68.9 61.9)(62.2 65.3)(62.0 73.6) the respawn rate is two hours, look for a nest with purple eggs.

Razormaw HatchlingRazormaw Hatchling
Dropped by [Razormaw Matriarch’s Nest]

Which can be found in The Wetlands (69.29) the respawn rate is two hours, look for a nest with purple eggs.

Razzashi HatchlingRazzashi Hatchling
The Razzashi Raptor is now a zone drop from Northern Stranglethorn and The Cape of Stranglethorn. Venture Co. Miner have the highest droprate according to WowHead.com but I would suggest killing Bloodscalp Trolls simply because there’s plenty of them or maybe even Bloodsail Pirates from which may also get lucky enough to get the elusive The Hyacinth Macaw and/or First Mate’s Hat. It’s also worth your while to kill Gan’zulah the Bloodscalp chief (25.18) who has been reported to drop the raptor pet or even the Hyacinth Macaw as a reward now and then.

High Priestess Hai’watna is a rare in the area with a higher drop rate for the raptor. She can usually be found at the beginning of the path leading up to Zul’Gurub (67.31)(67.34). Be prepared for a long wait as this raptor does seem to be quite elusive. The Raptor drop rate is said to be 1 out of 1,000. Northern Stranglethorn [Level 25-30] or The Cape of Stranglethorn [ Level 30-35].

Companion Pets: Crimson Whelp

Since I’m working on getting a set of Whelps I thought I’d share my tips for farming these companion pets.

Crimson Whelp
Take a skinner and head out to wetlands. Stop by Greenwarden’s Grove and empty your bags – use the mail box and mail cloth/skins/drops to an alt, your going to need space – set yourself to auto loot and loot everything – it adds up quick.

crimson whelpYour going to start out at Raptor Ridge 69.34 and kill every raptor in sight including clearing out the cave which about once an hour you will find a nest has spawned in there, which once you ‘clicked’ rewards you with a Razormaw Hatchling worth 200-350 gold. Continue along the ridge and you will end up down by the burning gate entrance to Twilight Highlands here you will kill Ebon Slavehunter and Ebon Whelp who can drop not only the Crimson Whelp but also the Dark Whelp. Follow the road out to an area with wrecked wagons where you will find several groups of Ebon Slavehunters and Dragonmaw Whelpstealers fighting.

If you prefer farming in one spot than this is the spot, the respawns are almost instant. Kill these Dragonmaw/Ebon npc’s till your hearts content or until your ready for something else. I follow the road which ends at the Greenwarden’s Grove, emptying my bags. Then I head over to the spider cave Thelgen Rock 52.62 and I kill all the Leech Stalkers outside the cave. According to WowHead.com these spiders Leech Stalkers and the Highland Lashtail raptors have a slightly higher droprate for the Crimson Whelp than most other kills in this zone. After killing spiders I head back towards Raptor Ridge killing all Ebon Whelps/Slavehunters on the way.

Bonus: There’s not a higher droprate for these but there are three rares in this zone that have been known to drop the Crimson Whelp now and then. Mirelow can be found north of Greenwardens Grove, look around the pools of water. Gnawbone is a gnoll and can be found in the gnoll camps along the water north of Whelgar’s Retreat. And Sarltooth is a bone raptor which can be found at the back of Whelgar’s Excavation Site.

/tar Gnawbone
/tar Sarltooth

So far: 6 hrs — 1 Dark Whelp, 6 Razormaw Raptors, and countless greens/blues, stacks upon stacks of linen/wool cloth, medium/light leather, not to mention the medium/light hides and grey items. With the current AH prices for the raptor pets and leather I’ve already made several hundred gold. The leather sells as fast as I can list it actually!
