My Week in World of Warcraft

Another week is gone, my how time flies when your having fun!!

We saw the final wing of TOMB open this last week and lot’s of QQ over the mechanics in LFR mode. I personally only did the wing once myself and of course I didn’t get any good lootz. We did have three stacks of Determination by the end but for a Monday LFR group I figure that’s pretty dang good.

#HappyBirthday2Me

This maybe a new week for most but for me it’s a new year as well since it was also my birthday week. I have to say I have the BEST world of warcraft guild mates, thank you ALL!

They blew up my mail box with like 500 plus birthday gifts. I got tons of wild flowers, fishing poles, and omg 100’s of bottles of bleach. Larissa sent me the chocolate cake — not as good as the real red velvet cake the kiddo baked me but it’s was the thought that made my day!!

Barla surprised me with a TCG Loot Card I was missing: Bananas. WOOOT! I’ve been watching for this little guy off/on for a couple years now but just hadn’t picked it up yet. TY! TY!

RAIDING

Let’s see, I don’t really think I did much when it comes to raiding this last week. I know I missed a couple raids I had signed up for on openraid and I also missed our guild raid night.

I did take my Rogue through heroic Emerald Nightmare for Balance of Power. And I went with Neall’s openraid group #AchieveMore to normal Nighthold on an achievement run.

TRANSMOGRIFICATION

I didn’t have anywhere near the luck this week completing xmog sets as I had last week. But I did manage to finish the last Dragon Soul set. I have wanted this set like forever!! It’s my MOST favorite set for my main, the LFR set [Deep Earth Vestments].

I’m currently showing 45/47 on the appearance tab but if you count them all (and I do) it’s really 37/53 PVE set’s.

FUGly Fashion Show

So you might wonder WHY did people send me bleach for my birthday, LOL, well because sometimes the FUGly makes you wanna wash your eyes out!!!

Our guild #EquinoxLlane held a Fashion Show (contest) this last week. The theme was of course the ugliest set you could put together, I wish I had recorded it but I didn’t, my bad.

I made what I thought was a really awful xmog. I started with what I consider the worst Druid set, the ICC tier set then I mixed & matched it with a few other items. Personally I thought it was pretty FUGLY. But the contest judge stated it was too matchy and actually said “not bad” ….. shivers!!!

ACHIEVEMENTS

It was an exciting week for achievements since I finished off a couple of big ones! Thanks mostly to @TheNealls I completed the [Glory of the Legion Raider].

Glory of the Legion Raider

I’ve needed just one pet for months now so I broke down and bought the Winter Rageling, completing [Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lich King].

Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lich King

I picked up several new mounts earning [Lord of the Reins].

Lord of the Reins

And I finished off two more zones [Stonetalon Mountains Quests] & [Ashenvale Quests] in Kalimdor that I’ve needed since the cataclym reset a bunch of old zone quests.

I ended the week with 23,695 achievements points and the guild roster says 19,680 for Starrefyre.

COLLECTIONS

I had a great week when it came to collecting mounts. I started off the week at 296 mounts, needing just four more for the next achieve. So I figured I can do that!!

I made myself the three jewelcrafting Panther mounts I was missing and put a bid on the AH for someones blacksmithing mount [Steelbound Devourer].

My Warlock finished her class hall mount quest and collected the [Netherlord’s Chaotic Wrathsteed].

I parked her out on Broken Isle where it didn’t take long before Lord Hel’nurath popped up. He has a 100% drop of the purple version of the class hall mount [Netherlord’s Accursed Wrathsteed]. But I’m afraid it’s a Warlock only drop, sorry all you none warlock types!!

I finished two more falcosaur pet quest, collecting the [Brilliant Direbeak] & [Predatory Bloodgazer] mounts.

I got the [Grove Defiler] mount from the Legion raiding meta achieve.

And somewhere in all that [Lord of the Reins] completed and I got the [Heavenly Azure Cloud Serpent] mount as a reward.

Heavenly Azure Cloud Serpent

So I ended the week with TEN new mounts!! Hopefully they’ll add another new mount meta soon but in the mean time my main is showing 352 total mounts.

I also added two new pets to my collection [Wind Rider Cub] & [Bananas]. You can check out my pet collection here, my current status is 837/906 and #18 on the realm.

PEEVE OF THE WEEK

OK my pet peeve of the week is feeling like I’m so far behind on my Balance of Power goals. The reason this is bothering me is as I’ve said before I feel like time is running out for Legion. But even more so I feel like I’m about to start running out of opportunities to even get into normal Nighthold groups.

I’m working on collecting these weapon appearances on ALL 12 of my alliance characters. Yes it’s kind of crazy but hey it’s my goal and I REALLY want those appearances!

Currently I’ve completed it on four characters Druid, Mage, Hunter, and Priest. My Warlock and Shaman need to complete a quest, three more mythics, and will then be ready to begin the Nighthold phase of this questline.

My Warrior and Rogue need to catch up on the Suramar questline. My Death Knight is ready to do the first couple of mythics. My Pally is ready to start the Emerald Nightmare phase.

And for my last two characters, in order to even start the Balance of Power questline the Demon Hunter needs to finish the classhall questline. And the Monk needs to finish questing in Azuna.

STILL ON MY TODO LIST

  • Complete the class hall quest line for my Monk, Pally, DK, and DH.
  • Complete the class mount quest for my Priest, Warlock, Shaman, Monk, DH, Warrior, Pally, and DK.
  • Go through all my profession characters and complete the Legion profession quest.
  • Farm Underbelly Rares for the Rogue and Shaman hidden appearances. Go for my last hidden appearance for my Hunter from Ursoc. Do TOV on my Warrior for the hidden appearance.
  • Get back in there and finish those last four Brawlers Guild ranks.
  • I still need concordance on my Hunter(x3), Rogue(x3), Paladin(x3), Death Knight(x3), Warlock, Demon Hunter, Monk, and Mage.
  • I still need to start working on the Chromie Scenario.

My Week in World of Warcraft

It was Wrath of the Lich King Timewalking this last week. I had planned to take my lowest geared characters through but it turned out I only got two characters through. Sadly it wasn’t even the characters that should have gone!!

I started the week needing the WRATH TW mount, all three toys, and the [Guantlets of the Kraken] for transmog from the Timewalking currency vendor. I ended the week only needing the mount [Bridle of the Ironbound Wraithcharger] and one toy [Hourglass of Eternity].

We had The Soultakers as our world boss this week and my Death Knight got lucky and picked up the frost hidden appearance.. yah!!

RAIDING

So when it comes to raiding, I’m really super casual. I was once in a raid guild, and frankly I feel like ‘been there done that’ and I simply have no interest in progression. When some of my guild mates expressed an interest in moving further into current content I didn’t much like the idea. I still don’t but for selfish reasons, I simply have no interest in progression. If I we’re being honest with myself, I think being casual is great but being casual hinders progression making  it merely a time sink. Time I could be working on something else, I do have a harem of ALTS who need attention!

DAILY CHORE LIST: Hit the class halls to start new missions, complete the daily profession cool downs, post or re-post auctions, and depending on the emissaries up do world quest. Do the PVP world quest as much as possible since I want P2 on all alts.  I also try to haul my leveling horde characters through any invasions that might popup.

WEEKLY CHORE LIST: Do the weekly quest on all my ALTS (unless it’s PVP related). On my main I do the weekly archeology quest and complete the pet battle dungeons. I usually start Tues off killing the world boss on everyone and doing LFR if I feel up to it.

I have personal goals for this expansion, like getting “Balance of Power” on all my ALTS. I want to complete ALL the set’s for everyone on the appearance tab. I want to collect as many mounts, pets, and achievements as I possibly can on my main. All the while keeping my main geared out for normal/heroic current content runs that I might signup for on openraid. But with so much going on at this time, raiding just isn’t a priority for me atm.

TRANSMOGRIFICATION

I had a good week xmog farming!! I started early spending most of Thursday farming old raids. I managed to complete [Vestments of the Eternal Blossom] in ToeS 25N and [Vestments of the Haunted Forest] in ToT 25N.

Friday night a few of my friends came with and we ran mythic Blackhand and Archimonde but no one had luck getting a mount from either. However thanks to Adam for giving me his tier shoulders, I was able to complete HFC M [Oathclaw Wargarb].

I ran ICC 25H, Halion 25H, Dragon Soul LFR and 25N without any luck. I ended the week with LFR mode for Pandslands ToeS, ToT, and SoO. Followed by some Emerald Nightmare, Nighthold, and TOMB. I got a piece here and there but not enough to complete another set.

COLLECTIONS

I did a quick run through Mogu’Shan Vaults 25N and got the [Reins of the Astral Cloud Serpent] making my 295th mount. Wooooooooot!!!

Reins of the Astral Cloud Serpent

After having such good luck I made the round and hit SHA and Nalak but nothing. I searched around for the Warbringers since I only need the blue eyed Slate Direhorn but no luck there either. These days however, several people are usually camping the spawn spots.

While I was flying about I picked up one of the Pandaria toys I still need: Shard of Archstone. I’m currently at 328 of 438 toys… I really need to make more of an effort on collecting those.

I have this sick feeling time is running out for the Legion. So I need to stay on top of getting my ALTS through LFR this xpac. Not just because the set bonuses might benefit some of my ALTS but because the truth is I want to complete the LFR tier sets now! I don’t want to be grinding away at them in the next expansion(s) like I am for the Pandaria LFR sets. It’s great to be able to go back and complete the old LFR sets but man the drop rate is terrible!!!

ACHIEVEMENTS

I DID a Trial of Valor Achievement run with . It was rough, we spent about 2.5 hours on the three achievements in that raid but we GOT em!

Here is the status of just some other of the achievements I’m currently working on:

Balance of Power: Mage, Warlock, Priest, Druid, Rogue, Monk, Demon Hunter, Shaman, Hunter, Warrior, Paladin, and Death Knight.

I STILL need one more pet for Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lick King the Winter Rageling from Hodir in Ulduar. I still need to complete questing in five Kalimdor zones (again). I had planned to start working on all the achieves in Ulduar again since when I completed them the first time it wasn’t on my main {OCD!!} but I keep putting it off.

PEEVE OF THE WEEK

My peeve this week is really kinda personal, not many in-game know I suffer from some major anxiety issues. I’m not sure why but this past week it’s been really bad.

Then again maybe I do know why, I’ve lost both my grandparents {Nana/Papa} this past year so death has weighed heavily on my mind. And I’m about to turn the big FIVE OH myself, this week actually. I miss my mom terribly but she’s been gone longer so it’s my Nana who I sometimes think about calling and then realize “oh yaa” she’s gone.

I haven’t been able to get in touch with my dad in nearly a year – he lives in another state. And my anxiety has kept me from truly honestly going out of my way too call other relatives and find out if he’s ok. He’s always been introvert himself so while he has a phone, he doesn’t really use it. My fear of course is finding out I’ve lost him too – the only man I ever wanted to call my Dad.

Since my mom divorced him (step-father) when I was a teenager I haven’t gotten to see him much. When my own gurls we’re young we would make the trip to visit for the holidays but even that has been quite some time ago. Yesterday was his birthday and we always chat on either his or mine which are only two days apart. So I’ve been fairly depressed having not been able to get a answer to my phone calls in several months.

So just what is my “pet peeve of the week” it’s me! Sometimes I just feel damaged beyond repair and it’s frustrating. It’s like normal things people do everyday without even putting thought into it I simply shut down on. For me sometimes just trying make conversation is like trying to run a 10K in 2 feet of MUD up hill – Impossible.

My Week in World of Warcraft

Why do I wait for Monday to really start working on anything!?! So yesterday I managed to do the weekly quest (20 world quest) on all but three characters. I could and should have finished those three but I decided to nap instead. When I returned I ran some horde toons though the invasion and suddenly my internet decided to crap out again. So I didn’t even finish that. Despite the server issues this morning I did at least do emissaries on two of those three characters.

The Kirin Tor Tavern Crawl finally went live. So I wonder who else missed it yesterday? Dang it, dang it, dang it, I really wanted to try that, I did hear it was a blast from those who did participate!

I have the Wild Dreamrunner, which is my favorite of course, but I just haven’t gotten lucky enough to get any of of the other zone mounts yet.

How about you?

RAIDING

I did the new (wing three) LFR for Tomb this week. I gotta say with all the QQ I’ve heard, I expected a typical LFR experience but that didn’t happen and I thought it was fun! Now I’ll admit the group I was in appeared to know about jumping with the bombs therefore no one was blowing other people up.

My guild went into (N) Tomb this week and still wasn’t able to get the second boss down. We also gave (H) Nighthold a shot but only got two bosses down with our remaining raid time.

TRANSMOGRIFICATION

I’m happy to say I completed another set this week on my main. The Lasherweave Battlegear from 10 man normal ICC. I’ll be ever so happy when I’m able to really start focusing on my alts. Speaking of alts my pally completed the mythic BRF Battlegear of Guiding Light set this week as well.

For my Sunday xmog run I only ended up getting through SoO LFR mode but still no luck in finishing that set!!

ACHIEVEMENTS

I had planned to hit up Ulduar this week because there are a sh^t load of achievements in there that I want to do (again). Many of them I’ve actually done already but not on my main. Let’s call it my WoW OCD but I want them on my main!! I just couldn’t bring myself to do ULD achieves alone and my friend Barla was locked out on EVERY character so I ended up skipping it.

I did re visit a few dungeons for achieves like Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman. I’ll need to go back and finish up the one with the rats, killed her with only three kitties fed (oops). I visited Trial of the Champion for my last achieve in there, The Faceroller. We ran End Time, Well of Eternity, and Hour of Twilight for achieves. And while it took a couple tries we also got Soul Power in The Forge of Souls which was a PITA! I ended the week with 23,475 achievement points.

PEEVE OF THE WEEK

So Tomb has been open like seven weeks today I think. I’ve done LFR every week sometimes on multiple toons. However I just this week finally got a second tier piece on my main toon!! I know I should be doing some normal runs with my openraid friends but seriously I just don’t know if I have the patience just yet.

Now as far as tier sets I would say maybe the drop rate is off (it’s possible) but I know that’s not the issue, especially since my guildies are getting tier pieces left and right. Zack got THREE just on his priest this week. I don’t really know what can be done to help when someone’s has really bad RNG but man it sucks!!!

Still on my To Do List:

  • Complete the class hall quest line for Monk, Pally, DK, and DH.
  • Complete the class mount quest for Priest, Warlock, Shaman, Monk, DH, Warrior, Pally, and DK.
  • Complete the last five quest achieves for Kalimdor.
  • Complete the Lich King Dungeon Faceroller & Soul Power achieves.
  • Complete a few more Lich King Raid achieves.
  • Figure out what I need to do to pick up the newest class pets!

My Week in World of Warcraft

Auction House Dance Party Aug 22, 2017

Comment and let me know, did you participate in the auction house dance party this last weekend? Did you hear music?

I didn’t get a lot done this week, hardly anything actually. I’m not really sure what’s causing it but it appears my internet connection seems to be dropping. It’s to the point I’ve had to reset my router two or even three times a day. This works for a few hours and then it starts happening again. Maybe my router itself needs replaced?

RAIDING

Ok so with that said as far as raiding goes this last week, it just didn’t happen for me. My guild did give Tomb a try Saturday evening but they only got the first boss down. We may try again this next week but I don’t know because suddenly we’re finding a lot of people just aren’t playing — mid summer slump maybe?

With the interest issues lately I didn’t even bother to post a #weekinwow for last week but my guild cleared Nighthold (N) Saturday within our scheduled three hour raid time. I know that’s not a true feat this late in the game for most but for us it was a first and awesome!

TRANSMOGRIFICATION

I had planned to focus on just leather to start but with my internet issues it didn’t go as well as I had hoped. It was just yesterday I managed to get both my druid and my monk through any and all LFR wings that I still need set items from. My Sunday xmog run was cut short so we only did mythic Hellfire. Of course my luck sucks so I didn’t get anything I needed!! I don’t think I completed even one set this week.

Have I mentioned openraid lately? I love openraid! It’s a great way for people to raid current content without all the fuss of a raiding guild. My favorite openraid events are lead by Nealls. He leads several runs weekly for old and new content. I ran [M] Highmaul, [M] Blackrock Foundry, [M] Hellfire Citadel, [N] Emerald Nightmare, and [N] Nighthold for achievements and xmog with Nealls this last week.

ACHIEVEMENTS

In the last two weeks I’ve managed to finish not one but TWO characters working through the “Balance of Power” quest line.

Frost Mage

Shadow Priest

I finally got the High Dimensional Learning achievement this week. I’ve been stuck on it for the past month or more simply because I would forget about it and when I would remember, it wouldn’t be a Thursday!

So a funny thing happened a few days after completing this achievement. I was cleaning out my bags and just happened to turn away for a few seconds. Next thing I know I was ported to some odd spot on Broken Isles. I’m like WTF?!?

Later I noticed I still had an AP icon in my bags, but just before I went click it I realized it wasn’t for AP it was [Adept’s Guide to Dimensional Rifting] which is the reward for the High Dimensional Learning achievement LOL. Yaa I felt a little silly after realizing I had ported myself.

PEEVE OF THE WEEK

MY gripe for this week is TOMB LFR .. how RUDE is it that most of the time no one rez’s the dead!! Like seriously these wings are super long and only once, ONCE have I been in a Tomb LFR where they waited for EVERYONE to actually get inside the room before pulling the boss!! AND it’s impossible to run back to your body and loot the boss in the time allowed when your next queue has immediately popped up too!

It’s Tuesday so time to share my week in and around Azeroth.

I don’t feel like I did much this last week really. I started off slow with killing the world boss on all thirteen 110’s Tuesday evening. Then Wednesday I ran twelve toon through LFR Tomb. And there lies my downfall … my poor hands paid for all that button smashing!!

I wasn’t able to do much because my fingers we’re swollen and aching for several days. I even missed a couple xmog runs with Neall because my hands just hurt so bad. Then I missed Saturday’s guild run when we lost power for several hours during a thunderstorm. I’m really bummed about it because it caused me to miss our guilds  first kill for Elisandre & Gul’dan. AND I needed those kills to finish off another characters Balance of Power!!

I’m currently at fifteen level 110’s that’s including my grandsons demon hunter, but I don’t play on that one beside the weekly world boss.  My toons or what I call my alliance harem includes one of each class, are well on their way to completing the Legion campaign. I have four more that need to finish the class hall campaign, broken shore campaign, ect. All are currently able to hit the new LFR raid wings for Tomb which means they are all above ilevel 860. Actually most are closer to 900 at this point with just one slacker, the monk.

TRANSMOGRIFICATION

I completed two more set’s for the appearance tab. The Malorne Raiment which I’ve been trying to get the last item, boots from the Chess event in Karazhan, for months now. Funny thing is while I don’t know how many times exactly I ran my main thru for the boots it just didn’t seem to matter because they would not drop! So last evening I took my #2 druid in for that one more chance before reset and they dropped YAH!!

OK so I figured if #2 is going to have good luck then why not try again with another set that only needs one item. Sure enough Ulduar 10 Mimiron droped my helm token, YAH!!!

I also ran ICC 10 but my luck seemed to have ran out there because I didn’t get anything I needed.

TIP: For faster set completions it’s a good idea to run alts of the same class to collect xmog. Also run all your alts who can wear the same armor type because any look-a-like gear they pick up does many times count for the other classes who share armor types.

ACHIEVEMENTS

I also did some random achievements this last week. I have this small issue when it comes to achieves, I NEED to complete them ALL!!

But not just complete them all, I NEED to complete them all on my MAIN!! So quite often I find myself going back and completing achieves that I’ve already completed on other characters LOL.

I got credit for Loremaster back in 2011 so I have completed questing the old zones but I didn’t go back and re-quest the zones after the Cataclysm. I know, I know, but like I often say, better late than never! So, I finally went back and did the quest again for Thousand Needles, Dustwallow Marsh, and Desolace. I’m not done yet though because I’ve still have at least another handful of those reset zones to go.

I know everyone has been busy busy mount collecting, especially  since the class mounts debuted, but not me. Well, not anymore than I was before is more accurate. It’s not that I’m not in a hurry, I am, then again I’m just not. I’m only six mounts away from the 300 achieve so yaa I am looking forward to that. But I’m also determined to help my Barla to catch up the army of alts so we’re doing one or two mount quest weekly. SO far we’ve crossed off the list: Hunter, Rogue, Mage, and now the Druid as well.

Darkmoon Faire brought with it a new event boss this last week, the Blight Boar Concert. I managed to get 3 of the 4 new achievements completed so far.

I understand you can loot a new toy [Blight Boar Microphone] and xmog items [Leather-Lined Cage Helm] [Necromedes, the Death Resonator] from this event. Note: The new helm is available for all armor types.

Taking this Show on the Road is HARD! The event only happens on the half-hour and takes maybe 5 minutes to complete. The hard part for me was not getting hit by the banshee waves =(

PEEVE OF THE WEEK

First off WHY do ALL classes BUT druids get a CLASS MOUNT!!

Druids did NOT get a mount, we got a new flight form!! Yes it is a two seater but It doesn’t even share with any other druid alts! So Druid alts must do the full class hall mount quest line but no one else does. THAT’S JUST NOT RIGHT Blizzard!!

AND

Hodir still WONT give me the Ominous Pile of Snow. The Winter Rageling pet has been the last one I needed for Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lick King for many months now. WEIRD, I could have sworn it was the Boneshard pet I needed, now I wonder how many times I hit Lord Marrowgar needlessly!

So comment below and share what your working on? And don’t forget to follow me on Twitter & Facebook =}

The Phases of World of Warcraft

I’ve been playing since about six months after World of Warcraft launched on November 23, 2004. To stay focused on a single game this long is quite a task in itself but I credit that to the fact that WoW has many different phases to keep ones interest peeked.

In the beginning it was simply questing and exploring and getting to know the different races and classes. I would say I was one sighted and even naive that first year or two because the simple things we’re enough to keep me happily playing nearly everyday. It was quite some time had no knowledge of raiding or even that there was another phase to WoW for players who we’re already
bored with what they thought mundane, questing and leveling. It was the first world event the opening of The Gates of Ahn’Qiraj that introduced me to not only the highest level areas in game at the time but the concept of organized raids — basically that there was WoW beyond questing & leveling.

So what are these seven phases of World of Warcraft you ask.

#1 Starter Zones – Quite simply this phase is the beginning of what many people have found to become an addiction of sorts. Leveling one or more of the many classes of characters available and occasionally in more than one race. Leveling including questing, exploration, and maybe even an occasional dungeon with family, friends, guild-mates, or even strangers (PUG).

#2 Socializing – As an massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft is basically a social game in that it’s programmed to be played with other people while online. This is where guilds come into play and many times joining a guild really opens a door that otherwise you may not have known was even available unless you we’re lucky enough to be in-game during some awesome world event like I was.

#3 Dungeons – If playing with a group of other people and reeking havoc in sometimes dark dusty and creepy settings then dungeons is the next step of progression in the World of Warcraft phases. As you can see on the Timeline additional dungeons we’re introduced to keep content from getting stale.

#4 Raiding – After becoming comfortable fighting in group settings you may find yourself looking for more challenge in the fights, this is where raiding fits in. Whether raiding casually or hardcore – raiding is naturally the next phase to draw you in. Raiding can be time consuming in that your constantly working on bettering your gear and dps (damage per second). Just like with dungeons, the Timeline shows additional raids we’re also introduced to keep content from getting stale and players interest peeked.

Over the years there have been many websites crop-up that help you with keeping your characters current: Elitest Jerks, MMO, and more recently Noxxic. I recommend bookmarking Ask Mr. Robot where you can see the best gear available for your spec as well as where that items drops and what’s needed to optimize that item for the best stats.

So now you might be wondering what could possibly be left .. well thats the beauty of World of Warcraft. For some people the multi-phases in this game tend to grab your attention and sometimes keep it all to themselves.

#5 Farming – If you find you tend to head out to some quiet zone to kill either specific creatures or everything in sight while gathering mats such as ore, herbs, cloth, or other items & materials then your a farmer. Sometimes on a particularly rough day I find I enjoy nothing better than turning on some tunes and heading out to some zone for some mindless rampaging and slaughter! My favorites spots include:

  • Skinning – Tol Barad & Sholazar Basin
  • Cloth – Tol Barad, The Restless Front with a Potion of Treasure Finding

Farming isn’t limited to just gathering mats either; rare spawns, rare pets, rare mounts, hunter pets, and you can even farm in-game gold.  A good start at farming gold would be doing your daily quest — which will be unlimited in the next expansion.

#6 Crafting – Each character is allowed cooking, fishing, first-aid, archaeology and two professions you choose. Choices include: mining, herbalism, skinning, tailoring, leatherworking, blacksmithing, engineering, alchemy, enchanting, inscription, jewelcrafting.

One question asked often is what professions should my hunter or druid learn or whatever class is in question at the moment. While leveling your characters I suggest choosing gathering professions, herbalism, mining, or skinning. Bank these mats for later leveling of professions or sell them in the Auction House. At level 80 drop one or both gathering professions and level a new professions that will enhance your class, if you we’re good at gathering you will have most of what you need to level your new professions already banked.

Don’t get stuck thinking that because your character is a cloth wearing Mage that you must become a tailor, that’s simply not true. If a profession gives a bonus then usually there is a bonus for most specs (melee, range, healer, tank). With that said there are some professions that while not required it just makes sense that they get paired together:

*Skinning + Leatherworking
*Mining + Blacksmithing / Engineering
*Herbalism + Alchemy / Inscription

    • Tailoring – are responsible for creating cloth items for cloth-armor wearing classes: Mages, Warlocks, and Priests. They also make items for other classes, such as cloaks, spellthread, decorative shirts, bags, as well as THREE special Tailoring (only) Mounts.
    • Tailorscan add unique powerful enhancements to their own cloak and leg items, available to no other profession
    • Note: Since cloth is quite expensive to buy but is dropped by humanoid mobs I suggest starting this profession early to gather cloth while doing quest – dungeons.
    • Enchanting – are responsible for crafting enchanting scrolls then used by players to augment the stats of gear, such as more strength, intellect, etc.; resistance to a particular branch of magic; increased spell damage or healing; increased speed (attack speed, mount speed etc.); or a variety of other effects. Enchanters also create specialty use items such as trinkets, off-hands, and the companion pet: [Magic Lamp].
    • Enchanterscan add unique powerful enchants to their own rings, available to no other profession.
    • Note: Enchanting complements tailoring well, since green or higher quality items made with tailoring can in turn be disenchanted to use for your own enchanting purposes. Also, many of the endgame patterns require materials produced by disenchanting.
    • Blacksmithing – are responsible for creating plate and mail items for plate-armor and mail-armor wearing classes: Paladins, Warriors, Death Knights, Hunters, and Shaman. They also make items for other classes, such as [Eternal Belt Buckle], melee weapons, trade items (used as ingredients by other professions such as enchanting rods), keys (used to unlock a variety of items in the world), and items that when applied to weapons provide temporary (and in some cases, permanent) buffs.
    • Blacksmithscan permanently place a socket on their own bracers and gloves at skill level 400.
    • Alchemy – are responsible for creating elixirs, potions, flasks, oils, and cauldrons. Other items include the [Vial of the Sands] which only Illustrious Grand Master alchemists can make but anyone will be able to use to transform into a [Sandstone Drake]. If you’re a raider Alchemy provides a unique feature of increasing consumables duration and effect while raiding. If your into PVP note, Alchemy offers a special healing potion for use in Arena.
    • Note: Herbalism is not technically required, but is highly recommended as nearly every alchemy recipe requires Herbs to make and herbalism can alleviate most of the cost of leveling up.
    • Jewelcrafting – are responsible for crafting rings, trinkets, necklaces and statues, as well as cut gems for socketed items.
    • Jewelcrafter’scan cuts special gems and trinkets only they are able to use, available to no other profession:
      • Chimera’s Eye offers increased stats but are limited to equipping only three of these gems at a time.
      • Figurines are Bind on Pickup (BOP) trinkets jewelcrafter (only) can make and use.
    • Note: Enchanting complements jewelcrafting well, since green or higher quality items made with jewelcrafting can in turn be disenchanted to use for your own enchanting purposes.
    • Note: Mining is not technically required, but is recommended especially since Jewelcrafting includes [Prospecting] ore into raw gems which alleviates much of the cost of leveling up this profession.
    • Herbalism – Suggested Classes: Druid: Can gather herbs in [Flight Form] and start with a hefty bonus to herbalism making leveling this profession a little easier. [Lifeblood] is a Herbalism only bonus spell and is useable while prowling and in forms that generally keeps you from casting healing spells. It can be used in or out of combat and has a spell effect of flowers sprouting up from the ground all around the character. Also Hunter or Warlock: Can gather while their pet protects them, could really be handy especially if your on a PVP server and fighting for a plant. If your into PVP note, Herbalism offers a HoT effect usable in Arena.
    • Mining – Suggested Classes: Hunter or Warlock: Can mine while their pet protects them, could really be handy especially if your on a PVP server and fighting for a ore deposit. With the bonus [Toughness] awarding an additional 120 Stamina .. that’s a nice a bonus for Tanks. Add this lovely bonus to a tank’s talents and this will take them well beyond an additional +1200 hp. This is also going to be helpful in PvP, where stamina is especially important. Mining on its own is a very profitable profession, because jewelcrafters, engineers, and blacksmiths all require mats from it.
    • Skinning – As in real life only certain creatures have skins worth skinning, in-game there are boars, wolves, dragonkin, Silithid, some Nerubians and, only very rarely, humanoids. The materials obtained from skinning are used primarily in the recipes of Leatherworkers and occasionally by Engineers, Blacksmiths and Tailors. With Skinning comes [Masters of Anatomy] gaining 80 critical strike rating.
    • Note: Since leather is very expensive to buy but is dropped by many mobs I suggest starting this profession early. Skin everything you possibly can while doing quest – dungeons, Either bank your skins for later use in leveling professions or build your fortune by selling them in the suction house.

Of course you will always want to have a gatherer in your list of characters so be sure to keep at least one these gathering professions on your characters for farming needs.

Just remember whether you farm your own mats or buy them from the auction house you really should be crafting either to enhance your own gear, yours alts, your guild-mates, or if nothing else for profit.

#7 Auctioning – I only recently came across this phenomena which adds another phase to World of Warcraft; striving to join the elite, gold millionaires! Auctioning may not be new but using the auction house to build a fortune in this manner is new to me so rather than rehash what I’m only just learning I’d rather point you to the people who know there stuff many of which have been in this phase for multiple expansions.

Some might call these phases a job but I think many will agree with me .. mastering trade skills and acquiring a gold fortune in-game can be quite fun in itself!
