The Celestial Tournament

A new weekly quest is to defeat three champions in The Celestial Tournament. This first week it’s Lorewalker Cho, Sully “The Pickle” McLeary, and Dr Ion Goldbloom followed by the four celestials XuFu, Chi-Chi, Yu’la, and Zao.

I started working on this Tuesday of course however I haven’t been very diligent about leveling my battle pets and it quickly showed when I ran through nearly every pet I had just trying to defeat Chi-Chi. Luckily we do have all week to complete this quest so after doing a little research on strategies and making a list of pets I may want to use for Celestial Tournament teams I went out to Kun-lai Summit and finished leveling a few more of my higher leveled pets on up to twenty-five; frog, fox, spider, sea gull, ect.. Many people have made the suggestion to level up more than one specific pet such as (2) clockwork gnomes, (2) darkmoon tonks, (2) unborn Val’kyrs, (2) peddlefeet, (2) fox, (2) sea gulls, ect.. To accomplish that I plan to go back to using the Navi inspired strategy and level another pet 1-25 everyday.

I’ve noticed the same strategy doesn’t always win especially with the four celestial fights. For that reason I keep a second team ready and waiting in case they are needed. Remember you can usually swap different pets with the same abilities if you don’t have the same pets I’ve chosen to use on my teams. With that said here are the teams I personally found success with;

Stage One – The Celestial Tournament

>> My strategy for defeating Sully’s team is actually quite simple and full proof once you get used to it. I start off with a Yellow Bellied Bullfrog using Swarm of Flies followed by Tongue Lash. Then a Healing Wave followed by Tongue Lash again. Refresh Swarm of Flies at one and Healing Wave when available. By now Socks is down and Monte is nearly down. I follow up with a Sandy Petrel using Lift Off, Adrenaline Rush, and then Trash till Monte is dead. And finally Rikki enters the battle where I continue with the same rotation until death. If Rikki kill s off my pet before the round complete I go with an Effervescent Glowfly using Swarm and Cocoon Strike only if it looks like Swarm won’t make the kill.

My second strategy is to simply have a second team of the same make-up available if needed – but usually not.

Dr Ion Goldbloom

>> My strategy for defeating Dr Ion Goldblooms team is fairly solid but can get a little confusing because you will notice several of the Celestial battle masters do a lot of switching of their pets during battle. I start off with Azure Whelpling using Arcane Storm followed by Surge of Power. Goldbloom will swap pets here so at this point I switch pets also going to the Sea Gull and immediately use Lift Off. I really think any flying pet with Thrash, Adrenaline Rush, and Lift Off will work for this slot. Follow up with Adrenaline Rush and Thrash using Lift Off when it becomes available. If your lucky you will finish off Trike but if not go back to your Azure Whelpling and use a Surge of Power to finish him off. And finally use Breath to win the round and quickly defeat Chaos. Notice I didn’t even need the third pet the Emerald Proto-Whelp who also has the strong Breath attack ability along with Ancient Blessing (heal) and Proto-Strike (lift off attack).

I haven’t needed a second strategy for this fight, it’s been win-win as is. But just in case you might want to have a second team with the same abilities on reserve

Lorewalker Cho

>> My strategy for defeating Lorewalker Cho’s team is fairly simple but works. Start by using an Onyxian Whelpling with Lift Off, Healing Flame, followed by Tail Sweep until Wisdom is down. Patience is up next, continuing with Onyxian Whelping using Tail Sweep which is a strong attack against Patience and fitting in a Healing Flame when Patience pops Tranquility and Lift Off when it’s available. When your whelpling dies switch to a Scourged Whelpling and pop Call Darkness followed up with Tail Sweep till Patience goes down. And finally enter Knowledge, continue with the whelpling using Call Darkness and Tail Sweep to finish off  the round. But if not, we’re using a Flayer Hatchling Kick and Blitz for the win.

Again I haven’t needed a second strategy for this fight, it’s been win-win as is. But just in case you might want to have a second team with the same abilities on reserve.

Stage Two – The Celestial Tournament

>> My strategy fordefeating Zao includes the spider burn strategy which works quite well. Start by using Alpine Foxling kit (actually any level 25 fox with these abilities) use Dazzling Dance, Bite, followed by Howl which adds a 100% damage buff. Switch to the Crystal Spider and use Brittle Webbing, Spiderling Swarm, then Crystal Prison. Now switch to your third pet, in my case the Amethyst Spider but any spider with these abilities will do. Now cast Brittle Webbing followed by Spiderling Swarm for the win.

My second strategy would be to use the Sunreaver Micro-Sentry, Extra Plating then Call Lightning. Immediately switch to Cogblade Raptor and use Exposed Wounds followed Batter until Zao goes down. I keep a second Cogblade Raptor on reserve just in case but so far the fight is over before the third pet is even needed.

Yu’la, Broodling of Yu’lon

>> My strategy for defeating Yu’las team start off by getting some initial damage with Peddlefeet using Perfumed Arrow. Then use Shot Through the Heart followed with Bow Shot until death. Yu’la has an air attack and you want to shield from that attack as often as you can which brings us to our next pet Soul of the Aspects. Start with Surge of Light which has a chance to stun the target followed by Breath. When Yu’la flies up into the air use Deflection. Continue this until death. For my last pet I use an Anubisath Idol following the same idea as before. Watch for Yu’la to fly up into the air, when he’s up you will want to use Deflection. Once you get the order of Yu’las rotation down you’ll know he does Jade Shielding followed by TakeOff. Knowing when these abilities are about to occur gives you time to buff yourself using StoneSkin (when he shields) and then shield yourself using Deflection (when he’s up in the air) followed by your main attack Crush. Start with Crush then use Stone Skin, follow this with Deflection only if Yu’la is in the air. Following a successful Deflection spam Crush till death or time to re-shield yourself. Knowing when to use a particular skill is how to win this fight so watch Yu’la cast and counter with the correct spell.

My second strategy starts with Lil’ Deathwing Call Darkness, Elementium Bolt, then Shadowflame. Repeat. Lil’ Deathwing nearly wins against Yu’la by himself. Next I used Lil’ Tarecgosa Arcane Storm, Surge of Power, and then Breath till death. IF you need a third pet, and I did not, I would suggest another whelpling with Surge of Power. Other pets I’ve heard suggested for this battle include Clock’em, Mr. Bigglesworth, Feral Vermling, Harbinger of Flame, Blighthawk, and/or Unborn Val’kyr.

Xu-Fu, Cub of Xuen

>> My strategy for defeating Xu-Fu also includes another spider burn strategy. Starting with Arctic Fox Kit use Dazzling Dance, Bite, followed by Howl which adds a 100% damage buff. Bring the Jumping Spider use Brittle Webbing, Spiderling Swarm. Last but not least is the Menagerie Custodian will cast Shock and Awe and finish him off with Ion Canon. Again any level 25 fox or spider with these same abilities can complete this fight instead of those I choose.

My second strategy would be to use a mechanical team starting with Landro’s LiL XT dropping a XE-321 Boombot followed by Zap until death. If your able to drop a second XE-321 Boombot do it. Follow that up with Clockwork Gnome using Build Turret followed by Metal Fist until death. And finally using Darkmoon Tonk use Ion Cannon followed by Shock and Awe to finish him off. OR maybe start with a Sunreaver Micro-Sentry, Call Lightning which would counter the moonlight with lightning storm followed by Landro’s Lil XT rotation and then the Darkmoon Tonk rotation.

Chi-Chi, Hatchling of Chi-Ji

>> My original strategy for defeating Chi-Chi didn’t go so well that first day. I start off with an Unborn Val’kyr using Curse of Doom then spam Shadow Slash until the Val’kry is about to die then use Unholy Ascension. ((It’s very important to get this into your rotation for the extra damage buff)) As your Val’kry goes down switch to the Nexus Whelpling and cast Arcane Storm followed by Mana Surge for the win. You shouldn’t need a third pet but I would suggest getting yourself a second Nexus Whelpling leveled asap. Since I don’t have a second one as of yet I slipped in a Scourged Whelpling for Call Darkness.

My second strategy starts with Pandaren Water Spirit using Geyser then Whirlpool followed by an immediate swap Chrominius who uses Howl followed by Surge of Power for the kill. I have a Scourged Whelpling for Call Darkness in the third slot but haven’t needed to use it.
